Artist's Comments

So it's finally finished (thank GOD). This piece really gave me hell. I basically had to do it twice. The first one I started was scaled completely wrong, and then it took me days to figure out the composition I wanted to go with, but I finally got it down (obviously). This is the first in the series I've named Underland rather than Wonderland. So yeah...

The Betrayal:
It's the beginning of the series and shows how our 'hero' may have arrived in this little macabre fantasy world; shoved down a rabbit hole by none other than the 'white rabbit' (which, here, is black and hairy and spooky and just all around not a nice guy) while the Cheshire Cat watches on in amusement. Is this a metaphor for what's going on with me as of late? Abso-effin-lutely. Because just as you're least expecting, someone will sneak up behind you and give you a firm shove forward... and behind them? Someone's grinning at your loss.

Anyway. Specs:
16" x 20"
Charcoal on 90 lb. paper/ soft pastel for the colored parts

A world of thanks to Deemer [link] for helping me with this entire series, both in imagry and suggestion.

Full view please. :aww:

Original Sold: Australia

Nice composition. The stripes look very effective; in the preview image it looks as if a shark's trying to get a grip on his arm ;)
The spidery legs add a certain mystique, I feel.
No complaints here. :salute:

You are absolutely brilliant.

No, really. This looks great. It was definatly worth the wait. It turned out so very well =]
I can not wait to see the others [again, no pressure.]

I'm going to try not to fav this; I'll wait to see how the rest of the series turns out & then pick my favourite out of that =]

Great job. Really.

This is dope, duh. I love everything from the pose, to the slight touches of color tones in the lower right corner and the cats eyes, which by the way give the whole piece more of that creepy vibe. I like the zebra pattern on the person's shirt - you could have chosen the easy way and made it all black but this way seems more complex, and it adds another dimension to the whole work. It's not all black and white, you know... more focus points.

Anyway, I think I need to provide you with a better picture now. Mine are all boring. :tears:
