#3 in the boys/radiography series. The flowers in this particular image are called Hellebore, which comes from the Greek terms 'Elein' (to injure) and 'Bora' (food). Hellebore is poisonous but was used to 'cure' mania in ancient times. It's a violently narcotic plant yet useful in nervous disorders and hysteria. Once, people believed that Hellebore could be used to ward off evil. I have... no idea... what that has to do with this picture, honestly. (Nothing?) I just found it interesting, and the 'lament' comes from the fact that the boy looks ever-so-sad. Meh. Charcoal on 90 lb. paper. 16" x 20". I took pictures while I drew this, so I should be posting a 'play-by-play' for this one when I'm not so damn tired. Full view please. Original available for purchase. Note me for pricing. Daily DeviationGiven 2005-06-21The Lament of Hellebore by =cinquain When I first saw this, I thought it was a photo. Closer inspection revealed a charcoal work of incredible detail. It's a rare person who can produce monochromatic work this fine. Check out =cinquain's gallery for more of the same. (Featured by !Subversive-imaginati) |
