Had to fix the original, which I've thrown into scraps. The reflection was bothering me far too much to just leave it. I think the red adds a bit to the piece as well. Hope you like it at least a little.
So, some people were kinda confused about the 'message' behind this piece. Is the kid a Nazi? (No.) Yadda yadda. Basically, I just wanted to capture the feel of feeling helpless against those that don't want to hear you out yet standing firm in what you believe in. We've all fought with someone about prejudice, whether it was regarding the color of someones skin or their sexual preference, and all of us have experienced the utter frustration and disillusionment that comes with the person you're arguing with being completely deaf to your point. That's what I was trying to portray here, in a way.
I picture this kid, who is bold enough to advertise his beliefs upon the sleeve of his coat, walking into a crappy public restroom only to be faced with a wall of bathroom mirrors covered in swastikas and hateful graffiti... and suddenly it hits him that despite how right he might be, there's no such thing as changing the world. Not the way he wishes he could.
I think this version is a vast improvement over the last. I distorted the reflection and added the red bits.

I do like the red. I think it's a nice touch. I like the new reflection too, though I do still like the old one. What I like about the new relfection is that the smudges and the red - which looks almost graffiti like - shows a bit more inner turmoil that what it did before. And yes, that swastika is definitely crossed out.
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
